All Swiss native farm animals are represented on the Ballenberg area. This is unique for Switzerland. The list includes bees, hens, rabbits, sheep, pigs and goats, cattle and horses. There are over 250 different animals! Also, animals threatened with extinction such as Grison grey cattle and special goats («Stiefelgeiss» and «Pfauengeiss»), can be admired here.
In the same manner as architecture, handicrafts or customs, domestic and working animals also represent an important part of rural culture. With information signs informing you about individual races of animals, we try to bring you closer to this cultural gain which adds colour and form to the Open Air Museum. There are, also, events throughout the season about farm animals.
