In the grounds of the Museum – unique in Switzerland – 250 native farm animals are represented: bees, pigeons, birds, hens, ducks, geese, rabbits, goats, sheep, pigs, cattle and oxen, horses and donkeys. At Ballenberg you’ll be amazed to find some farmyard animals that were in danger of becoming extinct.
In the same manner as architecture, handicrafts or customs, domestic and working animals also represent an important part of rural culture. With information signs informing you about individual races of animals, we try to bring you closer to this cultural gain which adds colour and form to the Open Air Museum. There are, also, events throughout the season about farm animals.
