Ballenberg can be reached by Zentralbahn railway either from Interlaken or Lucerne straight to Brienz or to Brünig. There is a regular bus from the railway stations at Brienz and Brünig to Ballenberg West or Ballenberg East.

Interlaken and Lucerne have every half hour rail connections to all the main Swiss towns as well as Zürich airport. The ICE from Berlin and Amsterdam have daily connections to Interlaken.

Of course, we do not want to deprive disabled people and wheelchair users of the possibility to visit our exciting Museum. On the whole, the West part of the Open-Air Museum Ballenberg (Hofstetten) is less steep and has more houses which are easily accessible than the East part. Detailed information can be found on a special map which lists all the gradients in terms of percentage and is available free of charge at both entrances.

There are a total of four toilet facilities which are fully accessible for wheelchair users: at the West and East entrances, behind the restaurant Degen and in the Eastern Midlands building group.

If you are coming to the Museum by public transport, we recommend the regional trains between Interlaken Ost and Meiringen which have modern low floor carriages. Another possibility are the Golden Pass trains between Lucerne and Interlaken Ost which are equipped with built-in mobility lifts. Please contact the “Call Center Handicap” at least an hour before the planned departure time (free phone 0800 007 102) so assistance can be provided for getting on and off the trains.
