Picnic areas and fireplaces

Throughout the museum grounds, there are tables and benches available for an enjoyable picnic in the open air. Our fireplaces have plenty of wood and running water.

Alfresco dining

Benches and tables throughout the museum grounds are great places to stop and relax. Well-equipped BBQ areas with firewood and running water are also dotted around the site. When lighting fires in the open air, please observe the current regulations with regard to fire hazards and Foehn winds coming from the Alps (refer to signage and daily schedule). Strong Foehn winds create a fire hazard. In order to protect our buildings and the forest, smoking and BBQs are not allowed throughout the open-air museum grounds on these days.

Ballenberg delicacies

Would you like to enjoy delicious Ballenberg specialities with your picnic? Then we recommend a visit to the ‘Homemade’ shop at the west entrance and ‘Märithüsli’ at the east entrance, where you can buy fresh Ballenberg bread, delicious Ballenberg Mutschli cheese and, of course, our popular Ballenberg sausages and other delicacies. The range varies according to the season and includes chocolates, jams, syrup, dried fruit and preserved vegetables and fruit.
