Explore the Open-Air Museum in comfort on the new Ballenberg train. It connects the museum grounds from east to west and back and stops at three stations along the way.
Each stop will inspire you to discover another piece of Switzerland’s history and its traditions – without having to endure long distances as you go. Especially handy if you’re already a little tired or can’t walk for very long.
Accessible, convenient and user-friendly – the new Ballenberg train has 36 seats and makes the museum more accessible than ever before to older visitors and those with physical disabilities. Now you, your family, grandchildren or friends can enjoy the museum in its entirety without having to miss out on anything. What an unforgettable day out!
Rides are included in the day pass and therefore free of charge. They operate between the East and West Entrances, where the start and end stations are located, making three stops along the way: Gasthaus Bären, Östliches Mitteland and Balm. The maximum capacity is 36 people. When at full capacity, please note that the train can only operate on a “one-in/one-out” basis. The use of the Ballenberg train cannot be guaranteed due to limited capacity.
The Ballenberg train does not make a round trip, meaning passengers have to disembark at the two terminals. Seats cannot be booked – the train works on a “first come, first served” basis. Older visitors who can’t walk for very long and those with physical disabilities have priority.
During the weekends and on public holidays, the Ballenberg train is reserved exclusively for individual guests and runs all day according to the timetable (subject to change).
From Monday to Friday, the Ballenberg train operates on a half-day basis according to the timetable (subject to change). In parallel, we are happy to accept enquiries for group reservations.
Book the Ballenberg train exclusively for your group and enjoy an unforgettable shared experience brimming with “Swissness”. The tour starts at the West Entrance, crosses the Bern region, continues through central Switzerland, then to the East Midlands and returns along Lake Wyssesee. The route ends at the “Alter Bären” restaurant and the “Hausgemachtes” shop.
